WILSAR train Wiltshire Police Officers in Water Awareness

Today Wiltshire Search and Rescue’s Water Lead, John Needham, will be delivering Water Awareness and Bank Search training to specialist search officers from Wiltshire Police. The officers will be taught to recognise the dangers to them and the public around the county’s waterways. They’ll also learn how to safely use their search skills around water, the correct protective equipment to wear and how to rescue people from the water using the Talk, Reach, Throw principle. The session ends with a practical exercise where the officers have to show how to correctly use a rescue throw-bag.

This will be the third of three sessions over the last few weeks and helps to keep the strong relationship WILSAR have with Wiltshire Police. They have recently supported the WILSAR Team by delivering talks and training in conflict management, first aid, crime scene awareness and allow us to use their premises at Wiltshire Police Headquarters in Devizes for training and meetings. It’s great to give something back to the Force.

Police crest.png Senior Police Search Advisor (POLSA) Sergeant Max Whyte said “Wiltshire Search and Rescue are an important partner for Wiltshire Police and provide search and rescue support to missing person investigations dozens of times each year.  WILSAR also have the capability to deliver more specialised skills to searches and our own search teams have been pleased to receive the really high quality training that John has delivered to us on behalf of WILSAR which has expanded our own operating parameters”
