While the rest of the team were recertifying their 5 mile annual fitness walk on Wiltshire’s Cherhill Downs, WILSAR’s Gail Leaman and John I’Anson were in London drinking Pimms and picnicking with the Queen! (Well, nearly!)
Gail, former Chair and John, former Secretary and Training Officer were selected to attend the Patron’s Lunch on the Mall in St James’s Park as part of the Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations. Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire, Sarah Troughton kindly rewarded WILSAR for their service to the community with two tickets to the event and our Management Committee chose Gail and John to attend in return for their continued meritous service to the Team over many years.
This once in a lifetime experience saw 10,000 people fill The Mall in London for its biggest ever street party! Having passed through security they were guided by The Patron’s Lunch volunteers to collect their bespoke M&S Patron’s Lunch Hampers containing a picnic style lunch and afternoon tea in a delightful wicker basket. Among the delicacies inside was Scottish smoked salmon mousse, a Pembrokeshire chicken salad, a mini piccalilli pork pie and even a can of Pimms. They were then entertained by a carnival-style procession, which began at Horse Guards Parade and travelled along The Mall, turning at the Queen Victoria Memorial. They waved and cheered as Her Majesty and the Duke of Edinburgh drove close by followed by other members of the Royal Family.
Don’t worry, we know what you’re thinking… There’s another five mile fitness walk planned in two weeks time so the Royal Pair can keep current!!!
